Cape Town

Although Leda was still living in Pietermaritzburg, she often returned to Cape Town, drawn back to the city of her childhood. Over time, these visits became increasingly important to her.

During her trips to Cape Town, Leda produced a further body of work that became known as the ‘Cape Town Series’. These works grew out of her repeated returns to Cape Town and her deep attachment to the city.

Leda wanted eventually to settle in Cape Town, and in 1994 she bought a property in Tamboerskloof. It was only in 1999, however, that she moved there permanently.

The only known audiovisual footage of Leda, possibly the only one in existence, captures her chatting with friends about the purchase of her Cape Town home.
