Garden Scenes

Leda’s ‘Garden Scenes’ turn to the gardens that formed part of her daily life, whether in Winterskloof, Pietermaritzburg, or later in Cape Town. These works sit naturally alongside her interiors and other paintings of place.

In one garden scene, Leda depicts an outdoor space with a circular patio, surrounding greenery, and carefully placed garden furniture. The soft pastel handling gives the image texture and a sense of stillness.

Leda was very fond of cats, and in one scene two cats rest on a stone patio, settling easily into the garden around them.

Taken together, the ‘Garden Scenes’ extend Leda’s interest in the spaces she lived in and cared for, both inside and out.
