Winterskloof
Upon returning to South Africa, Leda and Rosemary settled in a small house in Winterskloof, near Pietermaritzburg. After London, it was a quieter and more removed setting. Rosemary’s work required her to spend long periods away from home, both lecturing at the University of Pietermaritzburg and working on theatrical productions.
These absences often left Leda on her own. She also found the misty Winterskloof climate difficult, and this period was marked by loneliness and depression.
Their relationship came under strain during these years, and in time it came to an end.
